A Message from StoryKeeper, Dan Cormier

I’m the 3rd youngest in a family of 10 children and a huge extended family. I learned early on how to be a conversationalist, and have always had a special fondness for conversing with the elderly in particular, because their stories are always fascinating and humorous. My parents fostered 6 more children as their biological children grew older and began to move out of the house. The children they fostered were from broken homes and some were abused by their parents, which taught me at an early age what being caring and compassionate was all about.

In her later years, my mother was a personal caretaker for several elderly people. She taught me how important it was to integrate compassion with patience when caring for people with special needs. She then ran a day care for infants and toddlers for many years. She has been a loving caregiver all her life, still giving as much as physically possible today, now in her eighty's, and a great inspiration for me and so many others she has touched in her life. Each home I go into, I assess my elder storyteller's situation and help educate them as to what rights and services are available to them as well, if and when a need arises, especially if needed immediately. I know exactly the most reputable companies to refer them to.

My father was a Master Plasterer back in our hometown of Natick, Massachusetts. If there was a Hall of Fame for plasterers, he'd surely be the chairmen. He is also the most creative and innovative person I've ever known... a tinkerer, an inventor, and an amazing jack of all trades. He taught me the skills of many trades, but more importantly, he taught me the importance of customer service and respect for others. He taught me to always do more than what is expected of you, especially when it came to helping those in need. His children were bred to always do more than what is expected of them, and we each continue to carry on that tradition to this day. I’ve always lived by these principals and passed this on to those I’ve mentored over the years, and do so each day with my son, Eric, an A-Honor Role 5th grade student at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Port Charlotte. An accomplished reader at just 10, Eric is a lector and altar server at our San Antonio Catholic Church, and has been a St. Charles School representative at San Antonio for many years, speaking to large audiences since the age of 5. He now reads at an astounding 11th grade, eight month reading level.

I wanted to start a new business with a purpose like no other, where I could make a positive impact on my new Florida community and really make a difference in people's lives. Through my passion for conversation and writing, I founded StoryKeeper USA, providing a service where I could audio-record simple Q&A interview sessions with people who were eager to share and preserve their family history, life experiences and their legacies. It enables the 'storyteller' to relive and recapture the best times of their lives while providing their families with an incomparable gift that can be cherished forever as it is passed down from generation to generation. The need for preserving these fascinating stories was undoubtedly there, and I thought " What better job could I possibly have?".

I now interview young children, typically ages 4-8, a revival of sorts of the old show Kids Say the Darndest Things, which is a fantastic way to capture an unforgettable moment in time, a small audio time capsule of a child's life at such a precious age. Can there possibly be a better gift to give to a grandparent or for a parent to hold onto for them selves?

Life goes by in a flash, and often we don't think to make time to capture and preserve those things that are most important to us, like a voice or a memory, until it's too late. I hope you will contact me today and be the pioneer of your family who will start a new tradition of new age family heritage preservation through digital audio. It's the most enjoyable and affordable way.
